Mr. Samuel C. Stouffer, 89, a resident of Hearthstone Retirement Home and formerly of 311 W. Third Street both of Waynesboro, PA, died at 12:02 A.M. Thursday, June 17, 2004 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He was in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past week. Born September 28, 1914 in Edgemont, MD, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Ada M. (Barkdoll) Stouffer. He lived his early life in Greensburg, MD. Mr. Stouffer attended the Smithsburg Schools. He and his late wife, Mrs. Frances G. (Verdier) Stouffer, were married November 10, 1933 in Hagerstown, MD. They moved to the West Third Street address in May 1986. Mrs. Stouffer died November 10, 1986. Mr. Stouffer worked on the family farm in his early life. Following his marriage, he worked as a molder in the foundry at Frick Co., Waynesboro from 1936 through 1946, and then from 1946 through 1951 he worked for Charles F. Miller, Waynecastle as a warehouseman and then from 1951 through 1973 for Arthur’s Dairy, Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in 1979 he worked at Landis Machine Co. as a night watchman. Following his retirement, he worked part time as a watchman at Waynesboro Knitting Mill. Mr. Stouffer was a member of Salem Church, Waynesboro, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1758, Eagles Club Inc., Order of Owls Nest #1073 all of Waynesboro and a honorary member of Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Assn. He is survived by two sons, Richard C. Stouffer, Waynesboro, Robert S. Stouffer, Greencastle, PA, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, one sister, Phyllis Stouffer, Waynesboro and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert S. Stouffer, Jr. who died May 1968, four sisters, Helen Kaiser, Reiman Beeler, Mary Jane Seward and Marie Harne, one brother, Roger Stouffer. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 21, 2004 in the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Pastor Lin Smalec officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Church, 4881 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
