Mr. Chester S. “Barney” Rotz, 83, of 151 S. Price Ave., Waynesboro, PA, died at 4:40 A.M. Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He was in failng health for the past year and critically ill for the past month.

Born November 25, 1920 in Guilford Station, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel C. and Urilla (Seilhamer) Rotz. He lived his early life near Chambersburg.

Mr. Rotz served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theater.

He and his wife of over 55 years, Mrs. Frances L. (Bakner) Rotz were married July 2, 1948 in Hagerstown, MD. They lived at the present residence for the past 13 years.

Mr. Rotz was employed by Peiffer Oil Co.; Waynesboro as an officer manager, from 1962 thru 1985 and then after the company was sold to Pen Mar Oil Co. he continued with the business until retiring September 2003.

He was a very active member of Blue Rock United Brethren In Christ Church, Waynesboro, taught Sunday School, served on the administrative board and was lay leader of the mid week services.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Angela Bergren, Fort Wayne, IN, one son, William G. Peck, Georgetown, Delaware, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Clara S. Kaiser and one brother, Olen Rotz.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 5, 2003 in the Blue Rock United Brethren In Christ Church, 7885 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, with Rev. Donald L. Bender and Rev. John W. Shubert officiating. Burial will be in the Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, PA, with military gravesides services conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599, Chambersburg.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday, in the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Rock United Brethren In Christ Church Spiritual Care Commission, 7885 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
